Company History

McShane Welding was founded and incorporated in December of 1973 by William McShane; business began operations in February of 1974. William, age 53, had worked in fabrication all his life and was previously employed at Erie Steel Products before starting his own business. McShane Welding began in a 5,000 square foot shop with crane capacity of 15 tons. With sawing, hydraulic punching, and drilling capabilities the business quickly became known in the region for quality and service while focusing on the welding and fabrication of small to medium weldments from plates and miscellaneous structural steel.

In 1980, the company bought out a small sheet metal business, Kartel Industries, which added shearing, forming, punching, and spot welding capabilities. In 1993, McShane Welding moved to their current location in a 18,000 square foot shop with a combined crane capacity of 50,000 pounds and a 27 foot under hook. This new location combined the two previous shops and gave the company direct access to the port of Erie as well as rail sidings. This allowed for the addition of a 20 foot plasma cutting system with an 8 foot by 20 foot water table capable of cutting up to 1 1/2in thick carbon or stainless steel plates. In 2004, the automated metal products division grew to include CNC punching capabilities and two years later a 250 ton loft CNC LVD press was added.

McShane Welding is currently owned by James McShane, William's son. Jim began working in the shop in 1977 while taking time off from Gannon University. After 5 years of gaining experience in the shop he then moved into the office working in project management and estimation. Recently, James McShane produced a strategic plan for company growth currently being implemented. This plan consists of adding key personnel to assist in the estimation, scheduling, and floor production aspects of the company.

Currently, the company is specializing in custom fabricated weldments, bins, hoppers, and stands manufactured from carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, as well as expanding the metal products division. McShane Welding looks forward to continuing to service a diverse product mix that reaches niche target markets.
